Do we just go freestyle in high school? I think participation would go down though . Not sure moms want to see new wrestlers get thrown for 5 The USA style is our culture, it’s just not helping come Olympics

I've been saying that America needs to focus more on Greco Roman wrestling being the first wrestling style before transitioning either to freestyle or folkstyle. Every youth wrestler needs to learn how to manipulate their opponent's upper body and there's no better way to do that other than Greco Roman wrestling. Greco Roman wrestling requires more power, more technique, more passion, and a deeper understanding of hand to hand combat in terms of grappling. How can I manipulate my body's center of mass while mastering my own ONLY using upper body? Also, he's right. Too many clubs, too many segmented wrestling ideologies spread across the United States whereas Japan has one core culture and style of wrestling. It's no surprise they found success this upcoming Olympics. Their wrestlers take their style of craftsmanship extremely seriously and it shows. The reality is that the world has caught up to the united states using less and the U.S can't seem to grasp that concept.

Excellent comment, and as much as I wish it would happen, it is unlikely based on most American's nostalgic attachment to folkstyle. American folkstyle is deeply imbedded in the scholastic culture of many rural and suburban communities in at least a dozen states, and it's the only form of wrestling most coaches know, making a transition to Greco or even Freestyle difficult. I wish it weren't so, but it is. Your last sentence also beautifully sums up America's position globally, not just in wrestling, but in every aspect of life, and the sad part is it didn't have to be that way.

Very interesting info. I am now a retired R.N. and I woke up on Saturday morning in 2017 with some blurred vision in my left eye and thought maybe my allergies were acting up. By Sunday night the blurrong had worsened, so when I got to work on Monday morning which was at a VA primary care clinic I called over to the eye clinic and spoke with one of the doctors there who advised me to come to the eye clinic for and evaluation. After being evaluated by 4 doctors I was instructed to call my husband since he needed to take me to Mass Eye & Ear in Boston as I needed to be evaluated by a neuro ophthalmologist there. Long story short I was diagnosed with a condition called NAION aka non arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy. For unknown reasons the blood flow to my optic nerve was occluded, and I was told caused me irreversible vision loss which which I am 20/400 in my left eye. There were some experimental treatments that had been used most notably a course of high dose steroids in an attempt to reverse the vision loss in NAION patients, but this comes at a risk for the development if diabetes and for this reason my neuro ophthalmologist did not recommend it. After listening to Dr. Kruse, it not surprising I developed this condition as many years leading up to it I had an office nursing job in a poorly lit windowless horrible air quality office, and I was on the computer 8 hous a day 40 hours a week. Reflecting back I was 44 at the time I started this job and just started wearing reading glasses. By 2017 I was a full time glasses wearer and could not see clearly much of anything without them. But, body is a miraculous vehicle and I learned to adapt to my left eye vision loss which had not significantly impacted my life other than having to use caution to protect the intact vision in my right eye. Now that I am retired going on 3 years and relocated to sunny Florida and no longer on the computer 8 hours a day, my general health has improved as a result and hopefully my eyesight will follow.

Basically look at how the Mongolian wrestlers train. All of their training is outside: from their practices to their strength and conditioning. They also wear leather shoes to wrestle outside. Probably one of the few countries that compete in wrestling outside, no matter the temperature or weather and they're mammoths of men. Another note, hes definitely right on the money with grounding and the lack there of in today's world. That's why im taking a massive shift to emphasize my training outside. My strength work will be inside since thats where all the equipment are at, but running, conditioning, wrestling, will be outside and barefoot

  • @WilliamsWrestlin

The warm up is probably the most critical part of practice. Having trained with the Dominican national team, they share the same style of warm up: 15 minutes of dynamic warm up, followed by 6 minutes of specific drilling warm ups before technique and then live. If you're not warmed up, you're likely to get injured

It couldn't be that they train in freestyle their whole lives and that America's are handicap because they train Folkstyle their entire life and sometimes freestyle. So the America are alway gonna be at a skill gap when it comes to the freestyle rules.

Jack doesn't know but he might if he sees this. Cornell is one of the most depressive/harming schools. At least it was 20 years ago. I went to clarkson and heard stories of that place through a few school mates. One of which went there. It was stacking bodies. There is little sun in middle/west and north in NY. In general. Friends from rochester were all very depressed in winter. Yes that school is tough for sure. Way more prestigious than my pea brain school. If only i knew when going to school why i was gaining 10 lbs per year while working out fairly consistent. 2001 was the start and cell phones were becoming more common, i had one and stuck it to my head 20-30 min a day. The phone was on fire at the end of the call and about dead. Thanks for teasing out more of the fine man Jack. I can't get enough.

But to ignore alternatives as well. That is tough as well. I'm 2 weeks into drinking the Kruse kool-aid and it's helping everyone in my house. The medicine systems of the ancients are still around - alive and kicking! And they tell you unequivocally that getting a lot of sun is nit good for you and will cause imbalances in your health. The idea of taking your lily white arse and baking it in tropical sun all day, solar callus or not, would be viewed in horror by these ancients.
